To kick off 2024, we are delighted to welcome a new artist from the Spanish Basque Country, Juan Escudero. Born in 1965 and a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 1991, with a specialisation in painting, the artist has since won numerous international awards for his original work focusing on the line: "I apply a system in which a first line prefigures the lower line and if an irregularity occurs, it is transmitted to the next line. Similar processes occur in nature, so that these drawings subsequently relate to familiar patterns and shapes such as surfaces, fabrics, fluids, orography, waves, etc. The basic idea of drawing is not to represent something, but to activate a process. It's similar to the automatic drawings we make unconsciously when we talk on the phone. A drawing like a musical improvisation, automatic writing, clear traffic for the present without correcting anything".
