COOPER SEYKENS

COOPER SEYKENS

from March 5, 2025
NEW ARTIST

The photography of Dutch artist Cooper Seykens showcases his ability to capture raw emotion, unique personalities, and the stories of his subjects. Armed with his analog Hasselblad, he photographs portraits of artists, musicians, and athletes, revealing proud and vibrant characters, particularly in his latest series shot in Mexico. By capturing intimate moments, the artist offers them new perspectives and emotional depth.

This sensitivity developed through black-and-white street portraits taken during his travels with his father, photographer Oscar Seykens, at the age of seventeen. Exploring the most precarious neighborhoods of major cities, he discovered the authenticity of their inhabitants. After training at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, he quickly began shooting portraits for the international magazine L'Officiel Hommes, and by the age of thirty, he had established himself as a renowned photographer in the Netherlands and beyond. The K+Y Gallery will present his Mexican series for the first time in New York in March and at the San Francisco Art Fair from April 17 to 20, 2025.
